Waroona Childcare

Waroona Ambulance recently visited the children at the Waroona Childcare Centre.
There were about 12 children on the day, all eagerly awaiting the arrival of the ambulance.
One of the girls demonstrated receiving oxygen via an oxygen therapy mask.
One of the boys demonstrated being hooked up to a heart monitor so that the rest of the class could see the heart working.
Then a few of the children tried a Pulse Oxymeter on their fingers to test the amount of oxygen in the body.

The main aim of these Show ‘n’ Tell visits, is for the children to meet the Ambulance Officers and to see the equipment that we use.
If we can get them to understand there is nothing to be afraid of, should they need to use an ambulance at some time, our battle is half won.
This was brought home to us by the young boy on the monitor. With a worried look on his face he asked, “is my heart going to go in that box?”

The visit ended with the children being shown through the ambulance, the customary lights and sirens and we left them all with a show bag of ambulance goodies.
