Drakesbrook Despatch October 2011 Newsletter

Well it's that time of year again.... It's SHOWTIME! Yep the Waroona Agricultural Show is here again and your local volunteers will be on duty all day until the end of fireworks in case anybody is in need of help.

We were extremely busy last year with a variety of ailments. The main ailment was dehydration of both children and adults. Please make sure that you and your children drink plenty of water, have lots of sunscreen on and wear a hat. We saw a few children last year with severe sunburn and believe me, prevention is far better than trying to deal with the aftermath of sunburn on children.

I'm not quite sure where we'll be situated but please come and say hello, meet your new ambulance officers and give us seasoned ambos as much cheek as you like! We'll also be selling raffle tickets and you could be lucky enough to win a first aid kit. We also have kids bags to give away and balloons, balloons and more balloons. Let your children come and climb through the ambulance and have some fun and show them that ambulances aren't scary! See you there!!!!!

General

Good luck to Andrew Kneale, Jacinta Birch and Jo Davis who have started their Primary Ambulance Care Course (PAC) up at Belmont. Once they have passed this course, they will be graded as PAC Officers who are allowed to go out on jobs as the second person in the crew rather than as an Observer. We look forward to having newly accredited officers to add to our ranks.

By the time this has been printed, Mark T and I will have spent Wednesday 3 October on duty at the Royal Show.  We received a request for Volunteer Ambos to head up to the show to do a shift to help cover the showgrounds with the Volunteer First Aid Service. We're both looking forward to it as we get to go on the rides after our shift finishes at 4pm. Let's just hope neither of us falls off and we have to call "MEDIC". I'd like to thank my colleagues at the Waroona Community Resource Centre for allowing me to take the day off to Volunteer at the Royal Show.

Volunteers

A St John Ambulance Volunteer is an important person, someone who donates a few hours of their time to put something back into the community.

We are always looking for more people to help our small group of hard working ambulance volunteers. If you can spare some of your time to learn life saving skills and give something back to the community that you live in please feel free to contact our Secretary, Carol Racco on 9733 2122 on Tuesdays or Thursdays between 9:00am and 1:30pm or visit our website www.waroonaambulance.com.au
