Drakesbrook Despatch July 2011 Newsletter

I've been asked to cut down my article so in future I will be putting a more in depth report on to our website. http://www.waroonaambulance.com.au/

In April 2011 St John Ambulance Waroona did 22 callouts. Thanks once again to our hard working Volunteers who make this vital service possible. I'd also like to thank Andy TT who compiles all our statistics each month. It's not an easy job but Andy makes it all look so easy. Thanks Andy!

Public Duties

Public duties are another part of being a Volunteer Ambo that not many people know about. We provide this service to groups within the Waroona community as well as covering Yarloop and occasionally events in Harvey. Just recently we were on standby at the Log Fence Pony Club One Day Event (ODE) that is held every year. Mark Tibbs and I have dibs on this event as we are always well looked after by the lovely ladies and gents that are in the canteen. Great food!!!! We much prefer to be sitting twiddling our thumbs and being fed continuously, but occasionally there will be a fall or incident that requires our attention. Thankfully, this year, there were no falls that ended up with the rider having serious injuries. Although I do believe that there was some cow doo doos being flung about by a more prominent member of the Log Fence Pony Club and one of our Senior Ambulance Officers (no it wasn't me but I will take it on board as an idea for future events). As you can see, we do find ways of amusing ourselves on what can be a very long and tiring day.

If you're at one of the local events throughout the year, then more than likely we'll be there as well. Drop by and say hello. We always welcome people to come and have a look inside our ambulances. Bring your children and show them that ambulances aren't scary and neither are the ambos (well some of us anyway).

Senior First Aid Course

The next Senior First Aid course is being held on the 11th and 12th August 2011 from 8:30am to 4:30pm at a cost of $160.00. Call Carol on 9733 2122 to book your place as these courses tend to fill quickly.

Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The next AGM of St John Ambulance Waroona Sub Centre will be held on Monday 15th August 2011 at the Waroona Sub Centre. The time will be advertised in the next issue. If you wish to have a say in how your local ambulance service is run then this is the time to put in an application form to become a committee member. For further details please contact our Secretary, Carol on 9733 2122.

A St John Ambulance Volunteer is an important person, someone who donates a few hours of their time to put something back into the community.

We are always looking for more people to help our small group of hard working ambulance volunteers. If you can spare some of your time to learn life saving skills and give something back to the community that you live in please feel free to contact our Secretary, Carol Racco on 9733 2122 on Tuesdays or Thursdays between 9:00am and 1:30pm or visit our website www.waroonaambulance.com.au
